Motivation

Although different words may be used, academic globalization is driven by 4 reasons and a dream:
Respectability -- The first two reasons are somewhat self-serving and reward-seeking involving:
  1. revenue generation through fee differentials
  2. turning the global spotlight (enhancing university ranking) on our institution particularly in the areas of research and learning.
Responsibility -- The other two reasons are more public-spirited and outward looking -- they deal with:
  1. preparing students for life and work in the very different world that they will inherit,
  2. building collective institutional capacity with key international partners who share our interests in preparedness for imminent and inevitable change.
The Dream – The ultimate goal is to grow strategic partnerships so they become systems of meta-intelligence that position world universities to become an effective force confronting formidable global issues of security,  social justice, and ecosystem health.
