Academic globalization has generated much discussion – some of it more controversial than we might think.  Although understanding the world would seem important for determining our role in a competitive global market and contributing to sustainable management of the Global Commons, academic globalization is sometimes viewed skeptically as a way to impose political thought, steal talent, or homogenize cultures. Many people hope that universities might unleash a world of opportunity while others offer the cynical view that universities simply lap-up research funding made available by multinational corporations in their quest for market domination.
